Game table - A must if you enjoy a game of poker or any other card game with the best tip for buying this type of table make sure it's octagonal or round in shape so four or more can play at a time. These can often be bought in a set with matching chairs to enhance the appearance of your room. As well as cards there are many popular board games that can be played as well like checkers, chess, monopoly and many others. Standing table games - There are a variety of other standing table games which can be used as an alternative to having a pool table in the center of your room. Table football is a popular game and various sizes are available and where space is more limited this is a good option to consider. If you are sporty and like exercise and have the space required for it why not try a ping pong table, this is great fun and vastly under rated for home entertainment. Air hockey is another brilliant table game that can provide hours of entertainment for all ages. Another standing game is darts which can be positioned so as not to take up the center space in the room.
Furniture is the first thing that can be changed or upgraded in order to begin decorating your game room. Comfortably reclining chairs can make watching a sporting event in the game room into an event that is entirely different from watching a sporting event in the living room with the family. A nice couch is another nice addition to a game room that makes it possible for company to enjoy your game room on occasion or can provide a comfortable resting place for a Sunday afternoon nap. From there more specialized pieces of recreational furniture can be added. A good entertainment system, ordered from on online retailer at an affordable price, can give your game room a more permanent feel. You can begin properly storing your games, movies, or music in your entertainment center that already houses a television, stereo system, and/or game consoles. A mini refrigerator stocked with cold drinks will also give your game room a sanctuary feel since now you will not even need to leave it if you get thirsty and need a refreshment.
You will obviously need a room and on the assumption that you don't have a spare room that isn't assigned for the non-existent guests, you might want to look at converting a loft space or basement, this is shut off from the world, won't impose on the rest of the house and if you're cunning enough, can be built without anyone else knowing. Clear out the room of any old junk and begin to make it safe, remove damp from the basement and install flooring in a loft. Once set up, decorate your room, white walls are best as they won't make it feel like a small space and make you feel like a recluse. Flooring should be simple, preferably wood or laminate that is easy to clean and won't require heaving a vacuum up some stairs. Decorate the room in a manly fashion, movie posters and old vinyl covers and definitely none of those girly canvasses or black and white photos your other half will undoubtedly have around the house. Make sure you have the most comfortable and unique chair but ensure there is enough space for all your friends. A large L-shaped sofa will be the most efficient but a couple of sofa-beds will also mean that your friends can stay over when their wives are no longer talking to them for spending so much time at yours.
You can also place a mini bar in one side of the rec room with a couple of bar stools. Place a small gum machine on the bar, or a table top popcorn machine. Behind the bar, you can have a vintage coke cooler or small bar fridge to cool beer or wine. Hang a mirror or wine themed canvas prints behind the bar. A game room will never be complete without a wide screen TV with a cable connection. You and your friends can watch sports shows on TV while having some drinks and playing a game of pool. Other essentials are a sound system, solid speakers with surround sound, a CD and DVD player. If you and your friends play poker, then a poker table in one corner would be a great addition. Place comfortable chairs and a couch facing the wide screen TV. Use fluffy and soft throw pillows for the couch and don't forget a plush area rug in that part of the rec room.
